Gameplay-wise, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is very similar to the series’ previous installments. The fundamental difference is that this time both Peter Parker and Miles Morales are playable. The playable character changes during certain plot points, for example, if one of them isn’t able to arrive somewhere in time or when they need to split up. The only villains we get are Kraven, Venom, Sandman, The Lizard, and Mysterio (kind of). They set up The Chameleon and Carnage but they don’t actually do anything. And that’s not even mentioning side characters like Silver Sable who easily could’ve returned in some capacity.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Peter, Mary Jane, and Harry visit Coney Island to reconnect; while there, the Hunters attack the park to capture a reformed Tombstone. While Peter rescues civilians, he is assisted by a super-powered Harry, who learns about Peter’s double life. Harry reveals that, on his father Norman Osborn’s insistence, he was cured by Curt Connors via a powerful organic exosuit that physically augments his body.

Spider-Man is one of Sony’s preeminent exclusive titles, so it gets the extra special optimization treatment. The game has a graphics-oriented Fidelity mode and a 60 frames-per-second Performance mode. You get to fully experience how fast Peter and Miles whip through the New York City skyline. Phin attempts to go through with her plan but this fails as the overloaded reactor almost destroys all of Harlem, and Miles’s mother and his uncle work together to evacuate Harlem. Miles uses that as his chance to talk to Phin, and he convinces her not to go through with it. Ultimately, Phin sacrifices herself to help Miles save the city, by flying him high above the city, so he can release the energy where no one else will be harmed from the explosion besides herself.

However, the game’s open-world formula, with occasional pacing issues, feels a bit repetitive to some. The integration of Peter Parker and Miles Morales adds depth to the experience, making it a must-play for superhero fans despite minor shortcomings. The previous games were highly adored for accurate web swinging for traversal, and now with the addition of the Web Wings, exploration should be a lot more unique and even quicker without the need to swing all the time. The second installment in a bestselling Spider-Man series by Insomniac Games. The sequel features two main playable characters – Peter Parker and Miles Morales.

You’re made to wait a little too long for them sometimes, but when they do arrive they never fail to excite. They are evolving brawls packed full of danger that put all of your skills to the test. Dodges and parries are key, as well as using environmental tools dotted around the arenas for your benefit. One area that Insomniac has made improvements in is that Spider-Man 2 offers significantly more in the way of enemy variety, so you’ll no longer be battering the same five balaclava bullies with baseball bats. New factions and units, such as flamethrower-wielding cultists that keep you at a distance, flying drones, and hunters who deploy laser grids above your head to limit aerial attacks keep you on your sticky toes.

Eight years later, Spider-Man takes on the villain Mister Negative, working to stop his plans to control New York City’s criminal underworld. Using Spider-Man’s ability to shoot webs and sling himself around New York, players follow Peter’s story while fighting villains along the way. Like the comics and film adaptations, Spider-Man takes on the responsibility of protecting New York City from the bad guys. However, he often struggles with keeping his personal life separate from his superhero life to protect his loved ones from harm. Arriving on May 6, otherwise known as Free Comic Book Day, is a prequel story to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. This slice of adventure is set to pit both Peter and Miles against a “new Super Villain whose powers they [don]t understand.” That villain being The Hood.

Of course, a hero is nothing without its villains, and Spider-Man’s rogues gallery is almost unparalleled. Outside of the likes of Venom, Kraven, and Lizard seen in the trailers, Insomniac has kept many more cards hidden up its sleeve. I won’t even hint at any of these except to say that Spider-Man 2 opens with a bang, offering up a sense of scale not previously seen in the series.

High Settings Requirements (1440p @ 60 Fps)

Insomniac shared the Story Trailer for Spider-Man 2, giving not only a better look at the plot of the sequel, but many of the characters involved too. From Harry Osborne’s ominous pledge to the surprise return of Mr. Negative, there’s plenty to whet your appetite before jumping into the full game later this year. Since the game lets you play as both Peter Parker and Miles Morales, this motif of them coming together to overcome their villains. While over double the size of its predecessor to start, Spider-Man 2’s size isn’t too surprising.
